Cincinnati: Broaders and Co., 1860. First Edition. Octavo. Item #032887

357 pages. A remarkable story of Lincoln as a candidate for President in 1860 when the same author who had written a work Presidential Candidates in 1859 listing nearly 20 names who might be President (Douglas, Salmon Chase, Seward, Fremont as well as Jefferson Davis), Yet within a year, he had published this very important early biography of Lincoln, distinguished by a wonderful Brady image of Lincoln on the frontispiece. Lincoln receives the Presidential nomination in May of 1860 and already copies of this book were appearing all over the Eastern U.S., from New York to Chicago. A near fine copy bound in publisher's brown cloth, spine lettering gilt, one bumped corner, yellow endpapers, bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown of Washington, D.C's Big Book Shop. An exceptionally nice copy, internally fresh.
