156 pages. He played the part of Christ in the famous passion play at Oberammergau three times. The play over the centuries often had antisemitic sentiments though the Nazi's wanted it to be unmistakable against the Jews. Lang had not performed it since 1922 but protested. His pacifism and anti-Nazi views led him to be a subject of the SS. The play over the centuries was often used to increase antisemitic sentiments and has been revised since World War Ii to be closer to the record of the gospels though many scholars still find hints of a hostility toward the Jews in the Gospel of John.
