This work was meant to memorialize those who fought, suffered and sacrificed their lives. The author was a survivor of the horror of this war. This book was written through agonizing memories, but it became his duty to write, certainly not for pleasure. He simply stated the facts and depicts those scenes of prison life best fitted to convey to the minds of the general readers. Includes much useful data on daily life and officials at prisons. The extensive appendix includes names of the Union Soldiers buried at Andersonville and those from Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware and other states. He was very bitter against the Confederates. Bound in purple cloth ruled in blind, spine has evenly faded to light brown with lettering gilt, brown coated endpapers, wear to head, some spotting to covers and a bit of toning to page edges. A very good copy. [CWB, I, 192].
