New York: Walker and Co., 1974. First Edition. Octavo. Item #032605

238 pages. Eleven uncollected stories by Ellison. Michael Crichton's foreword discusses how he was warned about Ellison's allegedly anti-social behavior and followed by Ellison's insightful introduction. If you only read the introduction, you will understand how you and every person desirous of self-knowledge will appreciate how our tortured childhoods can be transcended though never fully escaped. The rest is labelled sci-fi but certainly is dystopian and full of what an "untamed cynic" sees of life. Bound in orange paper covered boards, spine lettering dark brown, previous owner's gift inscription, A near fine copy stamped "donated by Santa Ynez Valley News" on the front free endpaper, in very good unclipped pictorial dust jacket lettered in orange and white, some even fading to spine. In all, a very handsome copy.
