xiii, 343 pages. A reference work containing lists of armies, corps, departments, engagements and general officers. This copy has the bookplate of Father Patrick Bowen Murphy (1850-1929) who was born in Ireland and became Chaplain in the Spanish American War to the Ninth Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was also an Irish American revolutionary, a member of the Fenians, dedicated to the establishment of an independent republic of Ireland. He was also a close friend of John Boyle O'Reilly who he joined in the dramatic 1870 Fenian Raid on Canada. At the end of the book there is a note: "Richard Irving Stone, the father of Paulding the Lecturer". A nice association copy bound in ¾ tan calf over marbled paper covered boards with matching endpapers, all edges marbled, red and black Morocco spine labels gilt, corners bumped or worn, joints fragile, From the library of Rev.
