173 pages and a 2-page publisher's catalog. One of the Hans Christian Anderson classics with illustrations by Johann Baptist Zwecker and Engravings by George Pearson. A small children's book that rarely survives in near fine condition. This copy was a birthday gift to Percy Alfred E. Astor on his birthday, July 23, 1865 and the bookplate of William Abbott Pluemer who collected children's books and also books on book collecting. A very nice copy bound in blue pictorial gilt cloth over beveled covered boards depicting a young boy running with his goats, spine lettering and all edges gilt, rubbing to corners, joints and spine ends. An exceptionally nice copy.
