223 pages, index. The 10th Mountain Division was the only American soldiers trained for mountain warfare, co-authored by Bob Bishop and Flint Whitlock whose father fought with the 10th in Italy. After their first combat in the Aleutians, they were transported to Italy where they spearheaded a mad dash through the Northern Apennines and into the Po River Valley. Bob Dole's foreword is a nice appreciation of their major role though he was there and served with them and received the injury that paralyzed him. Profusely illustrated, this is a major contribution to a little known force of made a major difference in that conflict. A fine copy bound in gray cloth, spine lettering in a foil blue, in a near fine pictorial dust jacket.
