The Revolt of Mamie Stover (inscribed By the Author to His Friend Gareth L. Pawlowski, Who Wrote of the Beatles )

New York; (1951): Duell Sloan and Parce. First Edition. Octavo. Item #032083

248pp. The novel is inscribed to the author's friend Joe Pawlowski who wrote: How They Became the Beatles. A very warm inscription: "1-7-73 for my good friend, Gareth L. Pawlowski, with best wishes, Wm. B. Huie". Pawlowski, a navy vet, also wrote on the Flattops of World War II. William Huie wrote about battles in World War II but this work and his Execution of Private Novak established him as a very good fiction writer. When this novel came out in 1951 it was about as steamy as any publisher would dare to get by the sensors. Mamie Stover made a fortune through prostitution and investments of her proceeds. Huie, while in the U.S. Navy in World War II, had experiences that became grist for the novel. Bound n blue cloth, corners with some wear through, some fraying to spine ends, spine lettering yellow-green, in a very good unclipped pictorial dust jacket with tape residue to flaps, small chip to head and spots of rubbing or small wrinkles. A very good copy.
