The Story of a Cannoneer Under Stonewall Jackson in Which is Told the Part Taken By the Rockbridge Artiliery in the Army of Northern Virginia

Lynchburg, VA: J.P. Bell Company, 1910. Octavo. Item #031848

Portrait frontispiece, 331 pages. With an introduction by Capt. Robert E. Lee, Jr. and Hon. Henry St. George Tucker. Illustrated with portraits. This is one of the best firsthand accounts of life in the Confederacy. It was George C. Marshall's favorite book. What made the misery tolerable was the leadership of Stonewall Jackson. His leading the legendary Rockbridge Artillery is one of the most readable of contemporary accounts. There were hardships and dangers, but Stonewall Jackson's leadership along with his Christian piety were what mostly his men recalled. The appendix on pages 309-311 gives the names of each man, their rank with a note of those wounded, or killed. A very good copy bound in green cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, top edge gilt, some spotting to boards, recessed with renewed endpapers. [Howes, M-759, Nevins, I, 132.].

Price: $90.00
