88 pages. In 1945 Macmillan celebrated its 100th birthday by offering a prize for the best fiction book written by any member of the U.S. armed services. Staff Sargeant Spencer Logan's book which opens with "I am a Negro American--all my life I have wanted to be an American.". He tells the story when his unit was to view a film on fascism. He notes that the white troops were on the right side of the theatre while the colored troops were on the left. Although this has changed, it is a remarkable picture of how racism dominated the world of what has been called 'The Greatest Generation'. With bookplate of Noel Sullivan with a letter laid in to Noel Sullivan who had discussed racism and recommends the book which became a part of his library. A near fine copy bound in blue cloth lettered in white, spine lettering white, small address plate to front free endpaper, small booksellers ticket to rear pastedown, in a very good unclipped dust jacket with a crease to lower edge of front panel and with some rubbing to edges and spine, along with some chipping to spine ends.
