The text is marked by that scholarship, thought and common sense which are characteristic of all M. Capart's work. The illustrations are excellently chosen and the more hackneyed views carefully avoided. There is a bibliography at the end of each chapter. A near fine copy of an important work bound in maroon cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, tiny spot to upper board and spine, previous owner's art nouveau bookplate.
