The Royal Canon of Turin

Oxford: Printed for the Griffith Institute at the University By V. Ridler, 1959. Folio. Item #031817

. 20 folio pages, with 9 numbered plates, some single pages most are double paged. In 1823-24 an Egyptian hieratic papyrus reached the Turin Museum broken into dozens of miserable little fragments. Within a year Champollion recognized that the document had once contained a listing of Egyptian kings. The work of Sir Alah H. Gardiner with assistance from Cerny and Botti identified the importance of these earlier findings. Egyptologists consider this one of the vital works (formerly called The Book of the Kings of Egypt. Bound in brown cloth, light wear to corners, small tear to the middle of the lower joint, a couple of rub marks to rear panel, internally clean. A very nice copy.
