Obelin, Ohio; 1927 and 1929: Mathematical Asssociation of America. Quarto and Folio. Item #031718

In two volumes. 210pp. and folio volume with 109 plates each with the facing page of text. [12]pp. Supplement to the bibliography in volume 1 and [8]pp The Mathematical Leather Roll and 1 laid in page of further additions. A major source of our knowledge is the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus, circa 1600 B.c., named after A. Henry Rhind. Sir Henry purchased the papyrus in 1858 after it had been discovered in Thebes in the ruins of a small structure. No other document presents such extensive information about early Egyptian mathematics. It was not until the early 20th century that the work recevied such intensive work from Arnold Buffum Chace who after ten works joined with Henry Parker Manning to complete the work published in these two volumes which have not only the facsimiles but the advanced translation and notes of their work. A very nice set bound in original maroon cloth, spines lettered in gilt, light finger soiling to covers, internally clean without names or bookplats.
