When the Redevelopment Authority of Philadelphia authorized the excavation of an early black cemetery (c. 1823-1842), it made the strictest effort also with the help of the Smithsonian to determined much on the health and demography of blacks in early 19th century Philadelphia. 187 pages, plus more than 150 pages of the map, burial places, names of those buried, image of Rev. Henry Simmons; drawings of various kind of coffins (figure 12), image of the large coffin warehouse. Later volumes in the series had an artifact catalog and further analysis. they found ceramics that accompanied the remains, of blacks as well as examples of shoes, and other examples of personal items. Bound in light gray paper wraps printed in black, black comb binding. A fine copy.
