Tucson: Loujon Press, 1968. Quarto. Item #031607

191(6) pages including errata, blank, (2) pages which includes a page of special thanks and a page advertising this issue. The book has a homage to Kenneth Patchen, p. 94-137, including sections by Bern Porter, Henry Miller; Thomas Merton; Allen Ginsberg, Charles Bukowski, 11 page interview with Patchen and others. When Jon Webb and his wife Gypsy Lou's home and workshop flooded, very few copies of Henry Miller's "Order and Chaos" survived the destruction and cost the publishers Jon and Gypsy Lou Webb dearly. Through Henry Miller's gift of his manuscript and a check helped them endure, their loss in the flood also included Charles Bukowski's paintings which floated out the front door (Tucson Daily Citizen, August 12, 1968). With some help from friends, they were able to finish The Outsider. Despite the loss, hundreds of friends including Henry Miller, Frances Steloff, Indiana University Library, and a host of friends sent checks and provided aid. In spite of their poverty situation, they originally offered the few surviving copies to their friends at the initial published cost of $25. Here is a very nice copy in the original dust jacket with the flowers pressed and sealed then laid in with a small memory written by Gypsy Lou that the items were picked inside a mile of Geronimo's grave near the Chiricahua Mts. Laid in is one of the newspaper accounts of the disaster. Bound in pictorial black and white paper covered boards lettered in black and white, spine lettering black and white, some light wear to corners and spine, in its original jacket lettered and decorated in red.
