A Critical and Exegetical Commenary on the Second Epistle of the Corinthians (2 Volume set)

Edenburgh, (1994-2000): T & T. Clark. First Edition. Octavo. Item #031488

Volume I: xxxvi, 501pp. Introduction and Commentary on II Corinthians I-VII; Volume II: xvi, 503-978pp. Commentary on II Corinthians, VIII-XIII. There is a reason that Betz and C.K. Barrett consider this the finest work on this remarkable epistle. Besides the fact that Dr. Thrall has dealt with the greatest detail to the Greek text, her mastery of the historical aspects of the epistle is essential for the biblical scholar. Besides the index which deals with commentators, classical and Hellenistic writers, the Biblical and pseudepigraphic texts, she also has dealt with existing papyri, Qumran texts and rabbinic writings. The 16 excursions deal in depth with issues that often puzzle readers, e.g.," Paul's punishment and Roman law", the "thorn" in the flesh, and many other issues here dealt with in depth for the first time. A fine set bound in green cloth, centrally stamped in blind, spines lettered and ruled in gilt. Very nice.
