Studien Zur Wustungsfrage Im Frinkischen Altsiedelland Zwischen Rhein, Mosel Und Elifelnordand (2 Volume set) in Slipcase
Cologne [Koln] (1975): Rheinland-Verlag. First Edition. Small Quarto. Item #031414
Inscribed to Professor Dr. Francois Gaeushof (?) with best wishes" 1976. In 2 volumes. Vol. I, 330 pages, with multiple folding plates at end [with folding map in pocket] Vol. 2. 519 pages with folding maps. This work shows the expansive settlement periods which only lasted a short time, such as those already known in the Middle Ages in the form of clearing and land expansion phases. The Eifel was chosen as the working area. More than 2000 deserts of all kinds have been discovered in the Eifel, spanning the period from the end of the Roman era to the early industrial age. The author has tried to collect as many facts and clues as he could about each previous settlement site and to classify them according to uniform criteria for each desert area. Aerial photography research and magnetometer measurements were taken. Both books in fine condition bound maroon cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, in near fine dust jackets and in the original publisher's cardboard slipcase. Very nice.
