Russian text. vii, 128 pages. 85 textual figures and 58 plates of which 10 are in color and tipped in. Filov was a Bulgarian archaeologist, art historian and politician. He was also Prime Minister of Bulgaria during World War II. On the other hand, he established the Commissariat for Jewish Affairs about the Jews in Bulgaria. He had them deported to Germany which, of course, they were sent to death camps. Later, he and 92 of his council members were arrested and sentenced to death by firing squad, then buried in a mass grave. Handsomely bound in full brown pictorial gilt morocco depicting a lion in gilt, raised bands with two compartments stamped in gilt, gold endpapers, table and list of illustrations also in French. small stain to upper board near fore-edge, spine just a bit sunned otherwise a very nice copy.
