London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1814. 12mo. Item #031112

Stuart Tate notes that Colman has captured a more positive view of Falstaff showing both love and light. His delightful poems are often acccompanied with illustrations such as Two Parsons who writes: Adam and Eve were, at the World's beginning,---Ashame'd of nothing, till they took to sinning...with sorrow big, they sought the Fig, to cool their blushes, with its banging leaves. A remarkablly easy poem to read for the modern reader with humor that delighted readers for over two centuries. xvi, 217 pages, Bound in full polished calf, boards ruled in gilt, raised bands, brown morocco spine label gilt, compartments fully decorated in gilt, short split to upper joint near foor but not broken through to endpapers. G. M. McMullin, Watermarks and the Determination of Format in British Paper, 1794-"CIRCA" 1830 in Studies in Bibliography 2003/2004, Vol. 56 (2003/2004), pp. 295-315 notes: There is apparently only one other publication containing paper bearing a mill name (4J WHATMAN I TURKEY MILL | 1822'). Perhaps a different sample would provide a different picture; for example, I have noticed TVY MILL | 1812' as the watermark in all but one gathering in George Colman the Younger, Poetical [see To Orthographers], see watermarks at p. v-vi.vagaries (London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1814.
