Little Blue Book. These small 64 pages books were the ways that introduced the hoboes, seamen, and others on the road to literature, philosophy and history. Louis L'Amour in his The Education of a Wandering Man tells how these little books became a vital part of his education on the road. He writes of his early career as skinner of dead cattle, a roustabout in the circus, a hoboe on the Southern Pacific across Texas, a seaman and c aretaker of a mine the Bradshaws after rough months "on the beach" in San Pedro. He writes :"The Little Blue Books were a godsend to wandering men..slightly larger than a playing card...sold on newstands for 5 or 10 cents each"..there he read philosophy, literature and history (from Darwin to Voltaire to Stevenson's Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, he must have read over a hundred including these. Staple bound in printed paper wraps. One front wrap with two corner creases. Near fine.
