The Color Curtain (foreward By Gunnar Myrdal)

Cleveland and New York, (1956): World Publishing Company. First Edition. Octavo. Item #031031

221 pages. Richard Wright's time in the 1955 Bandung Conference. This was the most important early conference for people of color who saw the world through non-Western eyes. He had left his membership in the Communist party in 1944. Here he sees both the failures of the West and the dishonesty of the Communist leaders. He does not buy into Chou En-Lai's views any more than the lies perpetrated by the West. A very nice edition to the most important African American novelist who encouraged James Baldwin and others to pursue excellence despite a world with both overt and subtle racism. Bound in black cloth stamped in red depicting a map with city stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt over red. A very nice, near fine copy in an unclipped dust jacket lettered and decorated in black, red and gray, faint stain near foot and near tiny nick, one corner chipped.
