94 pp. Since the war between Britain and France in January 1793 confirmed Burke's reputation for his prescience but irritated his friends especially as he sought to bring them over to a more moderate viewpoint (he distinguished pure politics from party loyalty). This work was his most direct attack on Fox. The result was further tension within the Whig Party. The result was that in January 1794 the Portland whigs had given up any hope of Fox moving toward moderation, and they aligned themselves with Pitt's administration. A very scarce title lacks half-title and a final advertisement leaf. ESTC T37975.
