New Haven: Yale University Press, 1926. First Edition. Octavo. Item #029955
268 pages, index., illustrated and map. An important association copy. Signed on the title page and on the front endpaper inscribed as follows: "To Dr. A.K. Fisher ret in remembrance of the HAE into Alaska, 1899. The author, Luther S. Kelly, Sept. 3, 1927, Paradise, California." Kelly, of course, was one of the legendary adventurers in the Old West, who was hunter, trapper, and Indian scout [his term]. He later went with the famous Harriman Alaska Expedition which included John Muir, A.K. Fisher, Dellenbaugh, George Bird Grinnell, John Burroughs and others. The pastedown on the back endpaper is from the Billings Times of August 1927 with his picture and the headline noting he had willed his body to Montana. Bound in black cloth, spine lettering gilt, wear to corners, in pictorial dust jacket with pieces torn away across the upper edge, light wear to spine ends. A very good copy.
