In four volumes. Vol. I: 736 pages, 70 plates; Vol. II: 860 pages, 41 plates; Vol. III: 755 pages [1 blank), 129 plates; Vol. IV [2], 707 Pages [1] blank, 129 plates. The most comprehensive history of the state written from a point of view sympathetic to the Mormons (particularly with the author's close association with the early Mormon hierarchy). Included are two sections on "Farmers and Stockraisers" and "Women of Note" (it was unusual to emphasize women at this time in the LDS writings). Whitney was born to pioneer Mormons in Salt Lake City in 1955 and a grandson of Mr. Heber. He was a member of the Quarum of Twelve Apostles from 1906 to 1931. He was the first Utah native to write a full-length study of the state. Besides his history of the state, there are more than 300 important biographies. Bound in full gilt decorated calf[, rebacked with old spine laid down, volume II has a chip in the last compartment, and a chip to upper jopint and head, corners bent.
