Bruno Liljefors An Appreciation
Stockholm: C.E. Fritze Booksellers to the Court, 1929. Limited Edition. Quarto. Item #029113
Limited to 1,000 copies, the present copy is #154. 190 pages illustrated in color and in black and white. The artist was the most important and probably the most influential Swedish wildlife painter of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. From his early work which was influenced by Audubon and then by the impressionists, but his style was profound especially since he had spent so much time in nature both as artist and hunter giving a more detailed understanding of the animal than most artists. Bound in 3/4 red morocco over marbled paper covered boards with matching endpapers, raised bands, lettering gilt, spine faded just a bit. A handsome copy.
