Poems: Collected and Arranged By the Author (2 Volume set)
New York: Appleton, 1855. First Edition. Small Octavo. Item #029100
Besides Thanatopsis, it includes June (which Poe considered one of the finest of early American poems). It was almost issued simultaneously with a one volume illustrated edition which Bryant tolerated but in a letter to R.H. Dana he writes that it is alright for "a class of readers, or at least book-buyers, who like things of that kind" and he goes on to say his publisher (Appleton) has promised to get out a neat edition without illustrations. "I have as great a horror as you have, they will, I hope, hurt nobody. I am not even sure I will look at them". A very good matching set in the original brown cloth. Owner's name Marietta S. Adams. [BAL vol. I, 343-344.].
