3rd edition expanded. xxiv, 552 pages, 16 unnumbered leaves of plates. This work remains an important classic on the British scholars' studies of Egypt culture. It is still used as a basic text by both Eastern and Western students of the Arab world. His first edition appeared in 1836 but this, the Third Edition, we have his completed study with new data and maps. Volume II has the index and errata slip for both volumes. Both volumes have the name of the previous owner, Robert C. Seabrook, 1848. Bound in green cloth ruled in blind, pictorial gilt spines depicting a bird near head and a full-bodied alligator, light chipping to spine ends, rear free endpaper to volume one is torn away and hinges cracked through endpapers, wear to corners, all text and illustrations are complete with only occasional spots of foxing.
