No pagination. 45 full page engravings representing the leading actresses of Shakespeare's plays with one page of text devoted to each engraving, with tissue guards. These beautiful engravings were done by various artists under the direction of Charles Heath (1785--1848) who was the principal engraver for the works of Sir Walter Scott and once he finished Rob Roy, he and his sons worked to produce these remarkable images. Bound in publisher's brown Morocco highly decorated in blind, central title gilt, raised bands, title gilt within one compartment, all others stamped in blind, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, occasional light scattered foxing but mostly clean. A very nice copy.
