It is fascinating for the several references to Benjamin Franklin. When Reynolds' father approached him, he was dressed only in gown and slippers and perusing a huge folio volume. It was considered disrespectful at the time but what was evident is Dr. Franklin was more interested in the book than his company. There are meetings with Siddons and most of the key dramatist in the late 18th Century. One of the most vivid of the firsthand accounts of those in London theatre during that era. ex-library copies with their bookplate but o other markings, bound in 3/4 brown morocco over green cloth, raised bands, lettering gilt, joints rubbed with upper joint a bit fragile. dark green endpapers.
