xiii, 473 pages, 58 color plates including frontispiece and 4 line drawings in black and white, all by artists Reginald Barratt, Walter S.S. Tyrwhitt and P.B. Whelpley. The section on Cairo was based on Ali Pasha Mubarak's "Khitat Taufkikiyyah Jaddiah". He was assisted by G. Zaidan especially on the Turkish period. The architectural work was edited and written by Mrs. Margouoiouth whose expertise is well known. The appendix deals with the massacre of 1860. The glossary and index will prove helpful to the serious reader. Bound in green cloth lettering gilt central blue decorative pastedown, spine lettering gilt, lower corners bumped. A very nice copy.
