Histoire Militaire De Mohammed Aly et De Ses Fils (2 Volumes in 4)

Paris; 1935 and 1936: Imprimerie Nacionale. Quarto. Item #028961

2 Volumes in four: Volume 1 in 2 volumes dated 1935, superbly illustrated with 102 gravures and 2 maps. Volume 2 in 2 volumes dated 1936 with 99 gravures and 7 maps. One of the most important military histories of Egypt in the period of Mohammed Aly (1769-1849) who was the Viceroy of Egypt and is often considered the founder of modern Egypt. General Weygand was appointed commander-in-chief of the Levant mandate in Lebanon and Syria. He was appointed High Commissioner of Steria in 1924. Upon his return to Paris before the coming of the Second World War, began his extensive study of Mohammed Aly whose major role from the late 18th to the early 19th century was bringing Egypt into the center of Near Eastern politics as it developed a sense of nationalism. All volumes bound green pebble grained cloth centrally stamped with a gilt crest, spine lettering gilt, a couple of tiny nicks to spine of one volume, front free endpapers of two volumes with a light crease. A very good set. (There is a notice tipped into two volumes stating in French….here in English….(His majesty King Farouk the first has ordered distribution of the book published under the auspice of his Auguste father, King Fouad first to celebrate the military campaigns of Mohammed-Aly and Ibrahim and for the greater glory of Egypt. Dated 1937).
