The Syria-Lebanon Directory of Michigan

A very scarce directory that lists not only all the Syrian and Lebanense Americans of Michigan but also the following articles: "I Am America!" by John W. Coury who was the Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor who calls for his own ethnic group to rise with patriotism to fight in the Second World War. Salwa C. Nassar, "Students' Social Life in Syria". The poverty in the poorer districts of Beirut is addressed by the students in cooperation with the Friends Service Committee since 1933. There is also an important article by Dr. Philip K. Hirtti of Princeton, History of Persia writes: "It is not enough to make money; we should use our money for a higher end; a nobler purpose". He writes of the relatively recent immigration and the rise of the people that now should be ready to serve in World War II. It also contains several photographs of merchants, service members, business, etc. Bound in 1/4 calf over marbled paper covered boards, marbled endpapers, original red wrappers bound in(front wrapper with some writing), some rubbing or a few nicks to spine which has faded.
