In two volumes, half-titles present, 340 and 251pp. both volumes with errata's on last page. The Man of Feeling was issued in 1771 and followed in February 1773 by The Man of the World, in which Sindall, a seducer and villain, is intended as a striking contrast to Harley. Both were published anonymously. Very scarce in the original first issue with the following points of distinction: Volume I, p. 28, line 11, "goop" for "group", p. 20, line 18, risen space after "suffering" which previous owner has marked, p. 196, line 12,, "an devery" for "and every", p. 218, line 17 "own" has damaged "w"; Volume II, p. 53, inverted commas at end of line 15 lacks the concluding parenthesis ("); p. 213, line 15, "space" risen and marked, p, 246, line14, has "I" [some copies have unnecessary "L") . Bound in contemporary calf raised bands gilt, red morocco spine labels gilt, chipping to spine ends, wear to corners, volume one lacks front blanks, owner's name, Osborne Wight, 1772 in both volumes on front pastedown, light scattered foxing or toning. A very good set.
