Engraved title page dated Amstelodami (Amsterdam) 1695 and regular title page Hagae Comitum (The Hague)dated 1698. illustrated with interpretation, notes and index. The works of the Roman lyric poet Horace (65 B.C.-8 B.C.) had their asendency in the Augustan age. This editon followed the typographic excellence established by Aldus Manutius. There is a three line French note on this unique edition as well as marginal note in French at T7v; and a laid-in note in Latin at Hh6. Additionally contains the life of Horatus and Aldus. Handsomely bound in a vellum binding with a spectacular gilt stamped panels depicting a statue holding a staff and shield with an owl and a duck, etc., at the foot and the words "Hagae Comitis" written at the base of the statue which is a town in the Netherlands(The Hauge). spine decorated and ruled in gilt, title in ink in second panel, wanting front endsheets, a very nice copy with just a bit of toning to page edges.
