This is the latest edition, enlarged and chastened by our most holy lord, the blessed 14th pontiff, in which some of the names of the saints omitted in the past editions, and other names of the saints and the blessed are added from among others. 352, 40, 8, 23 pages in mauscript in ink noted as Addenda in martirologia pro Conventa St. Marie B-?. Vignette title page and text in red and black. This edition is the one on which all the modern martyrologies are based. "Nos Fr. Joannes Paulus Zapparella Sacrae Theologiae Magister, Ordinis Praedicatorum, ac in inclyta civitate Venetiarum, in totoque ejus Serenissimo Domino contra haereticam pravitatem, inquisitor generalis, a` S. Sede apolostica specialiter delegatus, concedimus licentiam publicandi martyrologium Romanum Gregorii XIII jussu editum, Urbani VIII & Clementis X auctoritate recognitum, &c. novissime` ex Typographia Balleoniana emanatum; collatum enim cum aliis jam impressis & approbatis, inventum est cum eis concordare, &c. In quorum, &c. Datum Venetiis in Aedibus S. Inquisitionis, die 28. Septembris 1756. Translation: ("We Fr. Joannes Paulus Zapparella, Master of Sacred Theology, Order of Preachers, and in the illustrious city of Venice, and in all its Most Serene Lord against heretical corruption, general inquisitor, specially delegated by the Holy Apostolic See, grant permission to publish the Roman martyrology published by order of Gregory XIII , revised by the authority of Urban VIII and Clement X, etc. lastly emanating from the Balleonian Typography; for when collated with others already printed and approved, it was found to agree with them, etc. In which, etc. Given to Venice in the Houses of the Holy Inquisition, on the 28 September 1756). This volume has an additonal 8 printed pages not in other recorded copies, in addition, it has additional pages bound in which are in mauscript in with ink, on the events of the holy calendar. Up to page 251 the text is in single column, pages 252-348 are double column, pages 349-352 are single column and the Index is in triple columns, pages 1-8 are single column. Bound in full contmporary calf over wooden boards, both boards decorated with five metal buttons, one metal clasp only, foot missing a bit of leather, marbled pastedowns, a few small marginalia. A very good copy.
