Tribunals, Passages, 31-35 (signed in a Limitation of 26 copies)

Los Angeles: Black Sparrow Press, 1970. Limited Edition. Quarto. Item #028874

One of only 26 signed copies of which this copy is letter Y signed by the author. There is a special pocket at the rear that holds a facsimile of the holograph notebook and final typescript for The Feast: Passages 34. The author attempts a synthesis of the fragmentary modern consciousness, "the isolated satyr each man is", into the stream of history. The work is symbolized in his versification. Short broken lines abounding in halting repetition and oxymoron slowly metamorphose into complex organic periods. Duncan relies on a transcendental vision for his idea of order: "there was a covenant made that we call the Age of Gold, the Ancestral design, and this alone governs what endures." A fine copy bound in dark brown cloth lettered in giltwithin a gilt frame, spine lettering gilt,, in publisher's clean acetate jacket.
