iv, [3]-378 pages. Hazlitt attacked Malthus's theory since it was only based on self-interest. It was the most perceptive of the early replies to Malthus. Nice copies are relatively scarce. The missing leaf (p. 41 and 42) cancelled and not present as issued. A handsome copy bound in full calf, board edges ruled and decorated in blind, raised bands with compartments full decorated in gilt (mostly fading), red Morocco spine label gilt, joints beautifully re-enforced, two corners showing wear, occasional light scattered foxing. Bookplate of W.O. Callender. Bookplate of W.O. Callender who was an importer and refiner of bitumen for road construction, began manufacturing insulated cables in the 1880s at their Erith site on the Thames.
