Glory For Me

New York: Coward-mcCann, 1945. First Edition. Octavo. Item #028801

268 pages, a poetic novel about three service men, honorably discharged for medical cause, who return home to the same town where in peacetime they had not known one another. Now they must come to know both America in peacetime with the war's memories still looming all around them. The novel was written in poetical form but when adapted by Robert Sherwood became the main idea for the classic film "The Best Years of Our Lives". Here it is set in Boone City, with Homer and Wilma, Al, Fred and all the characters including Butch (played by Hoagie Carmichael in the film). Bound in black cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, some light scattered foxing to front endpapers, in unclipped blue and white dust jacket lettered in red, spine faded corners nick with a larger chip to lower left corner of rear panel closed tar to upper edge of front panel and very light chipping to spine ends. A very good copy.
