Photograph: Jack London as a Stranded Sailor, 190-

5" x 7" Item #028776

The original is in the Library of Congress in the Grantham collection (see below). As Jack London wrote about life in the slums of London's East End, he disguised himself as a stranded sailor. He describes them in The People of the Abyss where the poor hoped for the meager fare offered by the Salvation Army. After four hours of waiting, they were herded through to get two slices of bread, a wafe of cheese, and a mug of ill tasting water. This rare photograph was taken in London and sent out from George Grantham Bain, 225 4th Avenue, New York and a note "This picture not to be re-sold. For your use only." stamped on verso December 10, 1907.

Price: $150.00
