Color frontispiece, vii, 112 pages, 50 beautifully colored engravings with tissue guards. Hippolyte Bellange had taught several artists lithography. This was the major way for people to see the military in all their glory just as the daguerreotype was beginning. For this reason, colored engravings were either done with special care or the process known as chromolithography. Both are still superior in richness to the images done even today. Beautifully bound in 3/4 green polished calf over green marbled paper covered boards, raised bands gilt, double maroon spine labels gilt, other compartments with the "N" and crown above the "N", endpapers and tissue guards renewed, light scattered foxing or toning. A lovely copy.
