Engraved portrait frontispiece, xii, 378 pages with 23 portraits. Translated from the French by J. Lewis May. The period between the campaigns of 1798 in Egypt and his divorce in 1809 was a period that includes Mme. Fourtes, Mme. Grassini, and several others. Two bore him a son which were recognized as illegitimate offspring. The known facts assisted in processing his divorce from Josephine. While there were numerous licenses, another seven women were regarded as mistresses. A very nice copy bound in 3/4 vellum over marbled paper covered boards, flat spine, brown spine label lettered in gilt, below the label it is stamped in gilt depicting two long stem roses, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers, one corner only slightly bumped, previous owner's name dated 1912, one small rub mark to label.
