Limited to 875 copies. The present copy is #549. xviii, 49 pages. While his contemporaries elected him President of the Royal Academy, they did note his work while reflecting a "steady hand, keen eye and gay spirit" were quite exotic with the female figure. Later critics changed the term exotic to erotic and many in the women's movement felt he had eroticized female anatomy. In 1962, he was honored by the Royal Academy with a one-man retrospective (an honor given to only five other artists in the 20th century). Charles Wheeler, president of the Royal Academy, as an artist of 'a steady hand, keen eye and gay spirit in a shaky world' (Exhibition of Works by Sir William Russell Flint, 4) 'Somewhere between the art of striptease and the art of painting and drawing' (Newton, 5), Flint's personal formula of idealized, eroticized, unindividualized female anatomy has become more problematic considering the women's movements of recent decades. Bound in white paper covered boards ruled and lettered in gilt spine lettering gilt, offsetting to first and last black. Near fine in a very nice yellow dust jacket lettered and stamped in black, light chipping to spine ends and two corners. Very nice.
