Thomas and Beulah; Poems (signed by Rita Dove)

Pittsburgh: Carnegie-Mellon, 1986. First Edition. Octavo. Item #028509

79 pages, winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, with a book of poems that the writer intends to be read chronologically (a chronological index appears on pages 78-79). Often compared with Faulkner, she has introduced complex themes of black life in the 20th century with the roots of slavery and dealing with marriage and as some have suggested, sexual ambivalence. A fine copy bound in black cloth, spine lettering gilt, in the finer second state dust jacket which announces her as the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Along with Nikki Giovanni, she ranks among the most important of the black poets at the end of the 20th Century.

Price: $275.00
