London; (1937): Faber & Faber. First Edition. Small Quarto. Item #028479
No pagination. Illustrated in color by Harold Jones. One of Walter de la Mare's most delightful children's books of poetry with the rich color illustrations of Harold Jones. Besides the marvelous readable poetry of the author, it was this book that brought the illustrator to the public's attention. Not only were the plates tragically lost in World War II which were engraved by Harold Jones, but few copies survived of this beautiful book. None are recorded in OCLC and only five copies are found in NUC, (UC Berkeley, Cornell, Columbia, Indiana, and the Newberry Library). A fine copy bound in color pictorial paper covered boards, spine lettering black and pink, in a very good pictorial dust jacket with small splits at the top of the flaps, a few small old tape mends to underside and a chip along upper edge. In all, a very nice clean copy.
