The Song of Songs [Newly Interpreted and Rendered as a Masque), Signed, LImited Editon, 113 of 178 Copies

[Corvinus Press, London, 1937]. Limited Edition. Quarto. Item #028439

Limited to 175 copies. The present copy is # 113 signed by Golding. 32 unnumbered pages. One of the most beautiful editions of Solomon's The Song of Songs, which is far more than its beautiful eroticism but it is also great literature. The Song (also known as the Song of Solomon or the Canticle of Canticles) is one of the Bible's remarkable celebrations of erotic love. It would appear from such phrases as "he turned from me, withdrawing his hand from the door, my heart was sore", is far more erotic than the theological interpretations often attributed to it. This very limited edition has been finely printed in red, black, and blue on Barcham Green Medway paper at the Corvinus Press. Named for Matthias Corvinus, the bibliophile king of Hungary, the Press was to produce a series of books which are among the handsomest of the period. Bound in flexible leather lettered in gilt, ribbon ties present. No names or book plate. Internally fresh. (Cave, 229).
