One of the great writers of range and cattle, J. Evetts Haley has gathered a wealth of information about cattle brands and ranching enterprises. Tribute is paid to the intense loyalty of the cowboys to their outfits and brands. He deals with seven great ranching enterprises beginning with the JA Ranch, established by Goodnight and Adair, the XIT, the Matador V as well as others. Bugbee has provided eight full-page illustrations based on early brand books or notices of brands and strays. The superior typography and design of Carl Herzog makes this one of the great items on the range.
