New York, Nd(ca.1914): Truth Seekers. Small Octavo. Item #028316
227(1) pp. 10th edition, last and most complete edition. While most public sins recorded here, over 2,000 are of authenticated sins of adultery or sex by pastors or priests of prepubescent girls. There are cases of arson, bigamy, embezzlement, murder, and a host of other crimes. The statistical study shows Methodist ministers in the lead with 728 to the Baptist only 492 with the Catholic priesthood only 325. However, virtually every other kind of denomination is noted here with sordid details. Mark Twain and others took delight in reading these copies, though as is noted here, the vast majority of ministers and priests were never charged with crimes. A near fine copy of a rare item (many copies were read to death though we would presume not from the pulpit). Bound in pictorial paper wraps lettered and decorated in red and black, spine plain, only light wear to spine ends, some foxing to fore-edges. No names or bookplates.
