The Ancient Mines of Ajo

Tucson: Mission Publishing, 1936. Octavo. Item #028258

Mining beginning in the 1840's. One shipment of $5,000 of rich ore made a huge profit but the second large shipment was lost at sea ending the operation. As gold was discovered by Wickenburg and rich deposits of gold, silver and other minerals in the Bradshaw Mountains as well as at Tombstone, the decline of Ajo as a mining center was in sharp decline. The early photographs show the temporary vibrancy of the area. Unlettered spine as in all copies. A moderately scarce item. Bound in green cloth lettered and decorated in brown. A very nice near fine copy. [Wallace V-22; Pugh, VIII, 1712].

Price: $65.00
