George Eliot's Poetry and Other Studies
New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1885. First Edition. Octavo. Item #028239
191 pages and (8) pp. publisher's ads. In evaluating George Eliot's work, the author uses the classical myth of the golden apple of Discord to ask why The Spanish Gypsy fails to make itself felt as a poem. What troubled Cleveland was Eliot's agnosticism. A very good copy bound in a decorative gray cloth lettered and decorated in dark brown and gilt, spine gilt, spine darkened, chipping to spine ends, binding finger soiled, lacks rear free endpaper, previous owner's bookplate. Internally clean and free from foxing.
Price: $125.00
