A very good picture of how major league baseball was taught to beginning young ballplayers in the late 1950's. Here are pictures of every aspect of the game from many of best known players in that era. For example, there are five pictures of Joe DiMaggio on how to catch flyballs, six of Joe "Ducky" Medwick showing stance, many of pictures (including Monte Stratton before losing part of his leg in a hunting accident and returning to pitch in the Majors (played by Jimmy Stewart in the move 'The Stratton Story'). Pictures of Lou Gehrig, Jimmy Foxx, Luke Appling, Hang Greenberg, Dizzy Dean, Bill Dickey, and a host of major league players. The text discusses in detail why Carl Hubbel's screwball was effective, Jim Weaver on the fork ball and many others. The author was the inventor of the All Star Baseball Game though later editions had to drop the names of players whose lawyers wanted them to be reimbursed for the use of their names. Bound in green cloth lettered in white, spine lettering white, some rubbing to spine and edges, previous owner's name. A very good copy.
